Community HIV Data-to-Action Initiative (CHDAI)

Turning epidemiological insights into impact.

Between 2018 and 2021, the CHES Empowerment Foundation implemented HIV Epidemiology Surveillance Programs in Uturu, Abia State, and Njikoka, Anambra State, transforming access to care for thousands of community members. In Uturu, CHES empowered families and individuals with lifesaving services, bringing HIV testing into schools, markets, and faith centers, linking people to treatment without delay, and creating safe spaces where stigma was challenged and replaced with support. People living with HIV were able to track their treatment progress more confidently, while awareness campaigns gave entire communities the courage to speak openly about prevention and care.

In Njikoka, CHES expanded these gains, building stronger partnerships with health facilities, faith leaders, and peer educators to reach even more residents. Thousands of beneficiaries experienced improved access to testing and treatment, while families saw better health outcomes and greater acceptance for people living with HIV. Beyond the numbers, the programs built trust, strengthened local health systems, and created a model of community-driven epidemic control that can be replicated across Nigeria. Through its leadership, CHES Empowerment Foundation has shown how data-driven, people-centered interventions can restore dignity, improve lives, and bring the nation closer to ending HIV.
