Spelling Bee Tournament – Championship

The Championship spelling bee tournament hosted in partnership with Young Catholic Students of Nigeria (YCS), Aba Diocese and Rotary Club of Gregory University, Uturu on the 21st of December, 2023 at Immaculate Heart College, Aba.

The Event of the day

The Competition themed #TheChampionSpirit for secondary schools in both Aba had the participation of over 12 catholic secondary schools from Aba and Okigwe, including: Mater Misericordia Girls College, Immaculate Heart College, St Martins’ Early Learning Academy, St. Joseph.’sCollege, Our Lady International Secondary School, St Paul’s Secondary School, St. Peter’s Secondary School,
St. Mary’s College, Resurrection Model Academy, Mercy Girls College, St. James Technical, Sacred Heart College, Christ The King College, Marist Brothers with over 60 registered participants from these schools.

In the spirit of sportsmanship they competed as champions, flexing their minds in beautiful ways as they spelled words adhering to the rules of professional spelling bee tournaments.

Through the rigorous process, the students showed courage and tenacity, virtues becoming of a champion.

Each participant was awarded with a certificate as a champion, having proven it to his or herself, their schools, and the world at large.

The first position was bagged by Joseph Jovita Uchechukwu from Immaculate Heart College, a wonderful SS2 student. She got the grand prize of a large sized dictionary with a certificate a gold medal and thirty thousand naira cash.

Following up was Ibeabuchi Perpetual Uzoamaka as the first runner up also from Immaculate Heart College, an SS3 student. She won the prize of a medium sized dictionary, a certificate, a silver medal and a fifteen thousand naira cash.

The 2nd runner up was Egwu Victor Chikadibia from Resurrection Model Academy, a JSS3 student. He got the prize of a medium sized dictionary, a bronze medal, a certificate and five thousand naira cash.
